THE FUTURE OF THE BOOK

IDEO has developed three visions of the book of the future, all of which exist, predictably, on some sort of iPad-like tablet.

The first one with its fact-checking feature and the second one are kind of appealing to me – and I think all of the interactive features can add a lot to a learning experience. The last one which deals with literature and storytelling, not so much. I don’t think technology can ever replace the printed book. Not for me anyway. I really love my books, I love having a bookshelf – a private library – and I love the different sizes and looks of books, and how the favorite ones gets all torn and dog-eared. I would have liked to post the entire video, but some sort of kink woulden’t allow me to do that, so here’s a few screen dumps and a link instead.
