OFELIA BEACH COPENHAGEN

Ofelia Beach by the Royal Theater re-opened this friday. Here’s som evening Iphone pics of the cool new wooden structure done by architect Lise Kassow. The area is perfect for chilled relaxing and it’s a venue for sport, music and design events all summer. The structure is lit up from underneath which highlights the dynamic pattern and makes it a perfect evening hang-out as well as a daytime urban hotspot.

SUMMERHOUSE IN SKAGEN

This pearl of a summer house is done by one of my friends, talented architect Lise Kassow. I really like the little sketch showing the composition principle, simple, yet powerful. I think that the photos tell the story of a house that’s nested perfectly into the surrounding landscape with a rare sense of respect and humility. The structure creates a variety of views and of intimate outdoor spaces, where you can feel private and enjoy the close relation to nature. The interior is likewise full of interesting angles and levels that create a spatial flow and play with light and shadow. It is not big, flashy and boisterous architecture, but there is something compelling and convincingly aesthetic in the humble and respectful approach.

‘TITLE CREEP’ IN ARCHITECTURE

Can you also say “I’m an architect”? – well, get off your high horse and don’t feel too special about it. So can everybody else and you probably already know this if you’ve been browsing job ads. ‘Architect’ is the hip, hot and sexy title. There’s IT solution architects, information architects, software architects and data architects – just to mention a few. Bill Gates dubs himself “Chief Software Architect” of Microsoft.

This article claims that we (the real architects) should be proud of the popularity of our title and savor it as long as it lasts – because according to Wallstreet Journal, the new hot title will be ‘ninja’!

And one must say that ‘ninja’ makes the sexyness of the title ‘architect’ fade a bit, since some legendary abilities of the Ninja include invisibility, walking on water, and control over natural elements. The functions of the Ninja also included espionage, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination, as well as open combat in certain situations.

The title ‘Architect’ suddenly seems boring and a bit incompetent. Writing this I recall how most of us got through our academic years on the basis of a box of crayons and a can of Spray Mount.

We’ll just have to steal back.

Well, from now on I’ll just call myself CRAYON NINJA!!

HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD AND FOR BEING YOUNG AND AMBITIOUS!

Designhelikopter is proud to show-off the work of one of my friends, architect Christian Bay-Jørgensen, owner of Bay Arch,  who went all the way to L.A, city of the bold and the beautiful to pitch his vision for the Hollywood sign. Today the Daily News published his idea – and even though he might not manage to actually sell this particular project – I think the courage and the Titanic-sized ambitions of a young architect from a small country ought to get applauded.
